| dc.description.abstract | In our society, only two genders, that is female and male are recognized. However, in addition to these two genders transgender people are also a part of our society. Transgender individuals are those whose genitals may not be fully developed or whose gender identity or expression differs from the sex assigned to them at birth. In different regions of India, they are known by various names. Transgender discourse has recently come to the forefront in the broad landscape Hindi literature. Through various forms like novels, short stories, poetry, plays, autobiographies and cinema creators have taken up the challenge of presenting the harsh realities of the lives of transgender community member to everyone. Transgender individuals have held a significant place in mythological text and religious narratives. Today transgender community members face numerous problems in society. Today a significant number of novels related to transgender are being written in Hindi novels. Through these novels, the lives, struggles and cultural practices of the marginalized transgender community are vividly portrayed. The research thesis ‘Transgender Discourse in Hindi Novels: A Study’ is divided in to five chapters and concludes with a conclusion. Chapter One – Transgender Discourse – An Analysis Chapter Two – Hindi Literature and Transgender Discourse Chapter Three – Overview of the Selected Novels Chapter Four – Transgender Lifestyle and Culture Chapter Five – Major Problems Faced by Transgender Individuals And in the end, it is the Conclusion Through their writings Hindi authors have highlighted the issues faced by the marginalized transgender community making them visible to all. Novels centred on transgender life have not only unveiled the tragedies faced by the transgender community but have also motivated us to consider their inclusion as an integral part of mainstream society. | |
