Abstract
This research presents a comparative study between the Badee’iyyat of Safiyyuddeen alhilli
and Burdah of Imam Busiri, two of the most celebrated poems in Arabic prophetic praise. The
study aims to reveal the artistic, rhetorical, and spiritual dimensions that connect and
distinguish the two masterpieces. as well as to trace the development of the Badee’iyyat art
within the broader context of Arabic literary and rhetorical heritage.
The first chapter provides a theoretical foundation by defining the concept of Badee’iyyal, its
relation to” ‘Iim Badcec® (the scicnce of rhetorical embellishment), and its essential features and
educational function. It also explores the historical origins and evolution of this poetic art,
emphasizing the pioneering role of Busiri’s Burdah in paving the way for later Badee’iyyat,
culminating in Hilli’s refined and artistic version.
The second chapter focuses on Safiyyuddin Hilli; his life, personality, literary achievements,
and artistic genius; highlighting his mastery of poetic structure, linguistic elegance, and
rhetorical precision. His poem “Al-Kafiyyah al-Badee‘iyyah™ is analyzed as a model of stylistic
excellence that enriched Arabic literary expression and inspired subsequent poets.
The third chapter examines Imam Busiri’s biography, literary contributions, and the enduring
impact of his Burdah, which combined emotional sincerity, spiritual devotion, and refined
artistic expression. The poem’s universal acceptance and countless commentaries testify to its
central role in the Arabic poetic tradition especially in prophetic praise poetry.
The fourth chapter constitutes the core of the comparative analysis, addressing the two poems’
thetorical techniques, aesthetic devices, metrical structures, and devotional elements. Through
this comparison, the rescarch demonstrates how Busiri established the spiritual foundation of
prophetic praise poetry, while Hilli elevated it to a peak of rhetorical sophistication and artistic
craftsmanship.
Ultimately, the study concludes that both poets represent two complementary dimensions of
Arabic literary beauty -faith and art, emotion and eloquence- merging devotion with creativity
in a harmonious expression of love for the Prophet Muhammad
