The social aspects in Mohamed Hassan Alwan’s novels with special reference to his novel ‘Al-Qundus’

Abstract

The thesis titled "THE SOCIAL ASPECTS IN MOHAMED HASSAN ALWAN’S NOVELS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO HIS NOVEL‘AL-QUNDUS’" consists of four main chapters, each divided into several sections, along with an introduction and a conclusion. The first chapter examines the development of the Saudi novel, starting from its inception and evolution as a literary art form, with a focus on how social events have influenced this development. It also addresses various social issues depicted in Saudi novels, such as women's issues and identity, and highlights the literary trends that have contributed to the evolution of Saudi society and literature. The second chapter focuses on Mohammed Hasan Alwan, beginning with his biography and education, followed by an overview of his literary career and the awards he has received. This chapter also discusses his contributions to contemporary Arabic literature, particularly through his critical and social perspectives expressed in his novels. The third chapter is dedicated to analyzing the novel ‘Al-Qundus’ with an emphasis on the main plot and events, narrative aesthetics, and the narrative structure that forms the text. The analysis includes a study of elements such as semiotics and monologue, as well as the narrative techniques Alwan employed to enhance the impact of the novel. The final chapter provides an analysis of the social aspects in ‘Al-Qundus’ focusing on human relationships, the family environment, and youth issues. It discusses how these elements influence the development of characters and events in the novel, along with an exploration of the cultural changes and social values portrayed in the narrative.
