Abstract

Allegory is a writing technique that has been adopted since the beginning of literary writing. Its potential is being exploited in other arts as well as in literature. Although Allegory originated as a way to communicate spiritual matters to people, it has always been relevant in every country and time as a defensive strategy. Modern literature began to exploit the potential of Allegory in the1970s. It was the Emergency and the political situation of the time paved the way for it. The Thesis specifically studies the allegory in the poems of prominent exponents of modern poetry such as Ayyappapanicker, N. N Kakkad, Kadammanitta and Sachidanandan from their socio political and historical context. The Thesis consists of an introduction and five chapters, conclusion and bibliography.
