dc.description.abstracthis study is undertaken to identify the Phytochemical constituents of a polyherbal formulation that has been effectively used in therapeutic interventions for anti-inflammatory conditions. The Antiinflammatory medicines used for the analysis are Prasarinyadi kashayam and Gulguluthikthakam kashayam. The systematic identification of phyto-chemicals starts from preliminary phytochemical analysis. The quantification of secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and steroids was carried out using different standard methods. An HPTLC study was also done to identify the presence of secondary metabolites. An antioxidant study was also carried out using the methanol extract by different methods. All the methods show sufficient amounts of antioxidant properties.GCMS analysis of the volatile oil of Prasarinyadi kashayam has identified 8 phytochemicals.GCMS analysis of the volatile oil of Gulguluthikthakam kashayam has identified 12 phytochemicals.LCMS study of methanol extracts of Prasarinyadi kashayam and Gulguluthikthakam kashayam gave a TIC consisting of a thickly packed mass spectrum. It indicates that both the kashayam may be complex mixtures containing the same or different molecular masses and polarities. HRLCMS analysis tentatively identified 73 compounds from Gulguluthikthakam kashayam, 42 from Prasarinyadi kashayam. From the literature survey, it was found that 66% of the identified compounds have been reported as anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunostimulant.UPLC analysis of the supernatant of Gulguluthikthakam kashayam identified 34 compounds. UPLC analysis of the supernatant of Prasarinyadi kashayam identified 24 compounds. Identification of phytochemicals in the supernatant was further confirmed by mass fragmentation patterns. This type of study will help to give a scientific validation of Ayurveda formulation.
